Time was when it was commonplace for the family of a small trader to live on the same premises as the business - 'above the shop'. The family of Joseph and Rose Nicholson was no different. Joe ran his gents' outfitters shop in St George's Terrace, while behind his emporium with its rolls of cloth and drawers of collars and handkerchiefs was the family area - a living room behind, with bedrooms and a front parlour upstairs. Our project aims to recapture this era through clever restoration of the shop front to take us back some 70 years to a time when Joe's business and the town in general were booming.
