We are ambitious. We want to make Norman Nicholson House a place that will be talked about far beyond the streets of Millom, while also making it a place that the people who live in Millom and the surrounding area will take to their hearts. We have a vision of a cultural tourist destination on the Lake District Coast which will help to regenerate a geographically isolated community, while also celebrating the industrial and social heritage captured by Nicholson’s writing.
At the same time, the building, its contents, activities and message will encourage people to get together - including and especially those who may find this quite difficult - and to feel good about themselves and their town. For those travelling some distance to visit, we want the house to evoke a sense of place, pride, and contemplation.
No 14 St George's Terrace inspired Nicholson to write for the world. Now we want people from all over the world to be inspired by this house.
